Session Descriptions
General Session – DIAL’s Mission and Vision
This session will provide an essential update for Assisted Living and Nursing Facility staff on the latest developments affecting the sectors. The session will include an overview of DIAL’s mission and vision, a department realignment update will outline recent organizational changes, and the status of survey completions and contracted teams supporting compliance efforts. Additionally, the importance of life safety will be highlighted, with a focus on fire safety inspections. Finally, key hot topics in long-term care will be discussed, ensuring attendees are well-informed and prepared for upcoming changes.
Nursing Facility Breakout Session
This session will cover common citations in Iowa, highlighting frequent areas of non-compliance and how to avoid them. There will be a major focus on Immediate Jeopardy (IJ) process, including how IJ cases are triaged, the components of determining IJ, interpreting IJ templates, and expectations for removal plans. Participants will also explore trends in IJ citations and learn about facility-reported incidents, including what and when to report, and the critical elements the department expects in both initial reports and follow-up investigations.
Assisted Living Breakout Session
This session will review the key assisted living regulatory and compliance issues which are essential to maintaining high-quality care. Participants will learn what to expect during a surveyor monitoring visit and the most common insufficiencies that are currently being cited. Additionally, participants will review the process for reporting incidents, the development of effective plans of correction, and strategies for managing complaints and revisits.
