Series Description
When Self-Care Isn’t Enough – Jennifer Ulie
When was the last time you had a professional development opportunity that focused solely on you? This is it! You cannot take care of others without taking care of yourself first. High levels of stress can have negative consequences on the body. Self-care cannot just be about lighting a candle and taking a bath rather than self-preservation. This time together will help participants to self-assess their own wellness, discuss the brain science behind why self-care is so critical, ask participants to engage in self-reflection, and explore different domains & self-preservation strategies. Participants will focus on building capacity to do more than just “get through” but learn how to thrive instead.
CMS Revised Surveyor Guidance – Behavioral and Mental Health Supports – Cat Selman
Nursing homes will be required to better integrate behavioral health and mental health services into resident care. This includes providing appropriate screenings, assessments, and interventions for conditions such as depression, anxiety, and cognitive impairments. Additionally, the revised guidance includes an increased focus on trauma-informed care, which recognizes the impact of trauma on residents and supports care practices that avoid re-traumatization. This approach will be particularly important for residents with histories of abuse, neglect, or other significant trauma.
Depression and Anxiety Management for Older Adults – Abigail Schiltz
This comprehensive session covers the identification of symptoms, understanding underlying causes, and implementing evidence-based strategies for managing depression and anxiety within LTC settings. Participants will learn about therapeutic communication techniques, the role of medication, and non-pharmacological interventions to enhance the well-being of residents.
