Session Descriptions
People Operations – Human Resource Essentials
Speakers: Maggie Hansen and Jodi Ploeger, Dentons Davis Brown Law Firm
Administrators, Managers, and Department Heads all have a role in an organization’s Human Resources function. Knowing the basic nuts and bolts of HR practices can be tricky, not to mention navigating the legal minefields in today’s increasingly regulated environment. This session will provide a review of the essential principles and practices of HR management, including best practices for hiring, firing, recruiting, workers compensation, discrimination, sexual harassment, changes to the 1099 form, and much more.
2024 Legislative Update
Speakers: Merea Bentrott and Brandon Hagen, Iowa Health Care Association
IHCA’s internal policy team will be discussing the outcomes of the 2024 Legislative Session including which items have been signed into law, those items still awaiting the Governor’s signature and items that failed to pass out of a legislative chamber. There have been several key bills that impact long term care providers this year, including provisional Administrator licensure, nursing home administrator pilot program, electronic monitoring, DIAL/Provider Collaboration, Health Care Employment Agencies, and funding opportunities for waiver and home health providers.
Regulatory Self Defense for ALs and NFs
Speakers: Stacy Hejda, Healthcare of Iowa (AL) and Rebecca Brommel, Dorsey and Whitney Law Firm (NF)
These sessions will provide a review of the current nursing facility and assisted living regulatory and survey landscape. The discussion will focus on the knowledge and strategies necessary to navigate regulatory challenges effectively. The sessions will address compliance management, best practices to avoid the most cited survey tags, responding to citations, assessing your risk management policies, and more.
