Program Description
This workshop includes information on the 5 major MDS changes that went into effect on October 1, 2023.
Gain the knowledge and skills to accurately identify, understand and schedule various MDS 3.0 assessments and understand the CAA process, including triggers and the care plan requirements. Plus, coding of PPS assessments and review of the PDPM classification payment system. The MDS 201 education will provide additional focus on Section GG coding. Review of requirements for CAA’s, timing for OBRA and PPS assessments, and resident-centered care plans.
Learning Objectives
- Identify how to complete the CAA’s process.
- Identify how to complete the care plan in relationship to the MDS including the baseline care plan.
- Identify how the MDS assessment data is used to calculate the resident’s Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM) classification necessary for payment of the PPS assessments.
- Provide an understanding of how the MDS contains extensive information on the resident’s nursing and therapy needs, ADL status, cognitive status, behavioral problems, and medical diagnoses used to define PDPM classification.

Speaker Bio
Lisa Roederer RN, RAC-CT, QCP, ICP is a nurse consultant and owner of Virtuous LTC Consulting Services. Lisa has 36 years of Acute Care and Long-Term Care experience. She has worked as a C.NA, Restorative Aide, LPN, RN, MDS Nurse, DON and has worked the past 15 years as a Corporate Nurse and as an independent Nurse Consultant.
