Topic Descriptions
Effective Leadership for the N.F. Administrator
Speakers: Ricky Rohrig, Sr., N.F. Administrator, Care Initiatives
In the realm of healthcare administration, the role of a Nursing Home Administrator is pivotal, demanding a unique blend of leadership, compassion, and strategic thinking. To excel in this role, administrators must navigate complex regulatory landscapes, foster a culture of empathy and support among staff, and ensure the highest standards of care for residents. This session will equip you with the knowledge, tools, and inspiration to lead with care and make a lasting impact in the lives of residents, families, and staff.
Human Resources Law and Successful Hiring Practices
Speaker: Jo Ellen Whitney, Attorney, Denton’s Davis Brown Law Firm
The exceptional leaders in long term care develop strategies to recruit and retain, coach, assure quality education/training, and ensure meaningful work to maximize job satisfaction of the facility’s human resources. This session will cover the important aspects of human resources and personnel issues including interviewing, hiring, and performance appraisal techniques.
Current Reimbursement Systems and Future Trends
Speaker: Brandon Hagen, Senior Vice President of Reimbursement & Policy Advisor, IHCA
More than half of Iowa’s nursing facility residents have their nursing facility stay covered by Medicare or Medicaid. The transition of these traditional fee-for-service programs into managed care models required facilities to evaluate the delivery of care and the management of resources in different ways. This session will help you understand how to navigate today’s current reimbursement environment and what to expect in the future.
Quality Improvement in LTC (QAPI, Five-Star, QMs)
Speaker: Gina Anderson, Senior Quality Improvement Facilitator, Telligen
Successful long-term care Administrators need a good understanding of public data that is released on your facility, how that will impact your operations and how to use that data in your Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) programs. In this session you will explore what your data reveals about your organization and learn the best practices for your quality improvement efforts.
Preparing Your Team for Survey Success
Speaker: Lisa Roederer, Nurse Consultant, Virtuous LTC Consulting Services
This session will provide a first-hand account of Iowa’s nursing facility survey process. The session will cover best practices for Administrators to prepare their team to meet and exceed the state and federal regulations to assure ongoing compliance standards, high standards of care, and survey success.
Mitigating Risks in Long Term Care
Speaker: Becki Brommel, Attorney, Dorsey Whitney Law Firm
Given the heightened scrutiny of today’s LTC profession by regulators and litigators, N.F. Administrators must be experts at managing risk within their operations. This session will include practical strategies for identifying your areas of potential risk and provide solutions for implementing systems to help avoid regulatory citations and sanctions as well as civil claims.
Financial Management (AR, Cash Flow, Rate Setting, Working with your Board/Management)
Speaker: Jeff Steggerda, Reimbursement and Financial Consultant, Brighton Consulting Group
Administrators are responsible for the financial health of their operations. This session will help you understand some basic financial management principles and management strategies needed for success in today’s complex health care environment.
LTC Marketing: Creating Experiences/Stronger Onsite Closings
Speaker: Andrew Powell, Director, Network Management, AHCA/NCAL
Nursing facilities have to be unique in their approach to marketing. The stigma that most people have of a nursing facility is that they are a solemn place. Crafting a strategic marketing approach that promotes the comfort and joy you bring your residents will ensure your facility stands above the rest. This session will help you understand how to create and drive a successful marketing campaign, where to invest your marketing dollars, how to create a unique on-site experience, offer tips on closing effectively and much more.
