SNF Medicare Review – April 2024

Course Description

This training will provide a complete overview of Medicare parts A thru D, and will cover nursing facility benefits and payment methods, as well as options to improve coordination and quality of nursing facility benefits for eligible individuals in both fee-for-service and managed care systems. 

Discussion will focus on SNF level of care requirements, preadmission screening, facility expense, billing requirements, and Medicare reimbursement including deductible, co-insurance, RUG-IV, and the appeal process.  We will also address Medicare Advantage plan hurdles and methods to overcome payment obstacles.

Learning objectives:

  • Identify facility challenges involving all parts of Medicare (A, B, C, D)
  • Enhance skilled documentation to meet medical necessity and level of care requirements.
  • Determine proper PDPM reimbursement driven by the MDS.
  • Address Medicare Advantage plan hurdles and methods to overcome payment obstacles.
  • Appropriately apply consolidated billing principles
  • Optimize reimbursement under PDPM, the SNF Value Based Purchasing Program, and the Quality Reporting Program
