Facility Disaster Plan Implementation and Recovery
Speakers: AJ Mumm and Laura Kacer
It’s happened! Your facility/community has been hit with a disaster. Now what? This comprehensive session covers the best practices for execution of disaster plans, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and empowerment to protect residents and maintain operational stability during and after emergencies. Participants will learn about emergency response coordination, communication strategies, and resource management. The training also emphasizes the recovery processes, including resident care continuity, facility restoration, and post-disaster evaluation.
Combating Negative Media/Social Media
Speaker: Jimmy Centers
This session is designed to help healthcare professionals effectively manage and mitigate the impact of adverse media coverage and negative social media interactions. It covers media relations, crafting positive narratives, and engaging with social media platforms to shift public perception. Participants will learn how to develop crisis communication plans, respond to negative comments, and utilize digital platforms to reinforce a positive image.
Workplace Violence: Active Threat – Active Shooter Response & Recovery
Speaker: Dutch Geisinger
This session covers a wide array of topics, including situational awareness, emergency response strategies, and best practices for ensuring personal and collective safety during an active threat scenario. Participants will learn how to identify potential threats, implement lockdown procedures, and engage in effective communication with law enforcement and emergency responders. Additionally, the course addresses the psychological impact of such events, offering guidance on post-incident recovery and support for affected individuals.
Hacked! Cyber Attack Response & Recovery
Speaker: Logan Pottberg
This session delves into the identification of various types of cyber threats, immediate response protocols, and comprehensive recovery plans to ensure minimal disruption and data loss. Participants will gain insights into the latest cybersecurity technologies, threat detection methodologies, and incident response frameworks. The session will emphasize the importance of proactive defense measures, real-time response coordination, and post-attack analysis to enhance future resilience.

Speaker Bios
Jimmy Centers, Principle for Cornerstone Public Affairs Agency. Jimmy started his career as a political communicator working for and advising campaigns at many levels, including presidential, U.S. Senate, Congressional, gubernatorial, as well as state and local candidates. In 2017, Jimmy co-founded Cornerstone’s Public Affairs practice out of the Des Moines, Iowa, office where he leads strategic communications planning and counsel for Fortune-ranked corporations and nonprofits alike.
August “Dutch” Geisinger, Deputy Director of the Polk County Emergency Management Agency. Dutch has an extensive background in critical infrastructure protection, business continuity planning, training and public outreach and education. Dutch’s prior experience includes serving with the United States Army and Iowa Army National Guard for twelve years, an officer with the Cedar Falls Police Department, and Homeland Security Program Manager with the Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division of the Iowa Department of Public Defense.
Laura Kacer, Resiliency Coordinator for the Polk County Emergency Management Agency. Laura has over 30 years of experience in public education and 20 years in leadership roles. Kacer comes to Polk County Emergency Management from Johnston Community School District, where she served as Superintendent, Executive Director of Human Resources and Middle School Principal. Prior to that, she served as Middle School Principal and various other leadership roles within the Des Moines Public School District.
A.J. Mumm, CEM, Director of the Polk County Emergency Management Agency. A.J. is responsible for preparing for, responding to, and recovering from natural and man-made disasters. He originally began his service with the Polk County Emergency Management Agency in January 1999 as a disaster mitigation planner and went on to join the State of Iowa’s Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division in July 2001 where he was eventually promoted to the position of Chief Planner. He had also served as a Firefighter and EMT with the Ankeny (Iowa) Fire Department for more than 12 years.
Logan Pottberg is a Cybersecurity Consultant for the Konica Minolta Healthcare Practice. His guidance helps organizations protect their brand, providing best-in-class cybersecurity, HIPAA Compliance, and IT managed services to keep them secure and efficient. Logan provides security awareness training and is a member of many HIMSS Chapters nationally.
