Member Spotlight: Bianca Vera-Horton of Bickford Assisted Living and Memory Care of Davenport

Bianca Vera-Horton entered the long-term care profession as a CNA due to her interest in nursing. In her current role, she is responsible for activities and life enrichment at Mary B’s, the memory care unit at Bickford Assisted Living and Memory Care, and loves helping others and leaving a smile on their face. Thanks for all you do, Bianca!

How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I always wanted to become a nurse. I became pregnant at an early age and needed a decent paying profession quickly so I decided to become a CNA.

What do you like most about working in long-term care?
I love helping others and leaving a smile on their face.

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
I would let others know that if you are looking to work in the health care field, you should start in long-term care first. It is a difficult, yet rewarding career, that provides opportunities to increase your knowledge.

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?
I have learned that life is precious, so don’t waste it. Life is too short. Spend time with loved ones as long as possible.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy relaxing, watching TV, crafts, shopping, swimming, listening to bands play and spending time with family.

What is your favorite quote and why?
“Do unto others as you would want them to do unto you.” Treat others as you would like to be treated.
