Director of Nursing

*This is a salaried position with a $8,000 sign on bonus**

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The Director of Nursing will plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the facility’s nursing department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, as may be directed by the Administrator, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is always being maintained.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
• Responsible for the planning, organizing, direction, supervision, and evaluation of all the nursing services provided in the facility.
• Ensures nursing department compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and implementation of nursing programs.
• Ensures maintenance of records and reports concerning residential care.
• Managers the Nursing Services department within the budget.
• Develop, maintain, and periodically update written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing department.
• Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the administrator as required concerning the operation of the nursing department.
• Develop methods for coordination of nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents’ total regimen of care.
• Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc. as necessary.
• Monitor the facility’s survey reports and assist in developing plans of action to correct potential or identified problem areas.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification/License
• Current registration and licensure in the state of Iowa as an RN. Must be in good standing with the Board of Nursing.
• Current and valid CPR certification.
• Current Dependent Adult Abuse Certification

Knowledge
• Familiarity with Federal and State long-term care regulations and laws.

Experience
• Work history in long-term care setting preferred.
• Previous DON work experience preferred.

Skills/Abilities
• Functional Literacy in written and spoken English.
• Management and supervisory skills.
• Proficient interpersonal relationships and communication skills.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Complete assignments timely, completely, and accurately.

DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY

Authority is delegated to the individual in this position to:
• Develop and implement policies and procedures for nursing care of residents.
• Supervise and manage all aspects of the nursing department.
• Assess, direct, and supervise residents’ care needs.
• Cooperate with administration to assure efficient, cost-effective operation of the facility
