Director of Nursing – $10K Sign On Bonus
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Nursing is responsible for the supervision of all nursing functions and resident care within the Denison Care Center community. Responsible for the collection of assessment data and administrative paperwork. Is required to have on-call responsibilities. The D.O.N. is responsible for the provision and monitoring of high-quality nursing care within scope of practice. Coordinates and supervises nursing personnel to deliver nursing care which will ensure that resident’s needs are met in accordance with the professional standards of practice through physician orders, community policies and procedures, and federal, state and local regulations and established nursing best practices. Reports to Administrator.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for the appropriate delegation and training of all licensed and non-licensed nursing staff as outlined by the State Board of Nursing and specific State regulations.
• Establishes and maintains positive relationships with staff, residents, families, visitors, vendors and third-party providers by facilitating positive communications.
• Researches and remains current and knowledgeable of all State and Federal long-term and skilled care regulations pertaining to nursing, care staff and training and resident care.
• Researches and remains current with Board of Nursing regulations and issues concerning long-term care and skilled care.
• Oversees the completion of resident assessments and service plans at pre-admission, admission, 30 days, annually, and with change of condition or at intervals specified by State regulations.
• Assures all employees receive appropriate screenings and immunizations specific to State regulations and Denison Care Center policy to maintain a healthy and safe environment in the community.
• Collaborates with the Administrator in planning and conducting staff education and training programs.
• Evaluates and maintains written documentation regarding all employee training and performance.
• Works closely with the Administrator to inform her/him of resident concerns and issues, staffing concerns and issues, and general community concerns.
• Provides oversight and training with Point Click Care software program.
• Coordinates and facilitates staff meetings.
• Responsible for hiring, orientation, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions of staff.
• Assists with direct resident care and oversees medication administration as needed to support staff.
• Adheres to all established policies and procedures and Employee Handbook.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to procedures for fire, life safety, disaster, security, work, safety and other emergency situations.
• Observes all work, safety and administrative rules. Comply with OSHA standard and regulations. Know the potential hazards of any chemicals used and the proper personal protective equipment required. Use personal protective equipment as directed by Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
• Coordinates with the Administrator discharge plans for residents as indicated.
• Collaborates with all consultants related to resident care (dietitians, pharmacists, etc.)
• Participates in State Surveys and completion of applicable Plans of Correction.
• Maintains confidentiality within the workplace with all written and verbal communications pertaining to residents, staff, and community operations.
• Assures compliance with all policies and procedures.
• Assists with other duties as assigned.
OUTREACH RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Establishes relationships with physicians, discharge planners, therapists, and other health professionals in the community.
• Markets the community through tours with potential residents.
• Assists the Administrator with organizing and conducting special events, health fairs, and specific speaking engagements with local civic groups.
• Promotes Denison Care Center in a positive and professional manner.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability/willingness to perform all position responsibilities adequately.
• Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, facility operations and personnel.
• Maintains acceptable attendance/follows work schedule.
• Displays cleanliness, good grooming, personal appearance and follows dress requirements consistently.
• Organizes and utilizes time appropriately toward accomplishing assigned tasks; requires minimal supervision.
• Displays ability/willingness to learn new skills and to teach others.
• Interacts in professional manner with residents, public, and co-workers. Works cooperatively with management. Displays willingness to assist co-workers when situation requires.
• Ability to do occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.), 30 lbs. regularly.
• Adequate and clear English speaking and writing ability; able to communicate effectively.
• Ability to spend long periods on feet and to ambulate quickly.
• Is free of non-treated communicable disease.
• CPR and First Aid Certified per state regulations.
• Ability to work safely and to recognize potentially dangerous situations.
• Ability/willingness to follow all policies and procedures.
• Is neat, accurate, dependable and keeps work/space clean.
• Ability/willingness to work longer than eight (8) hour shift, to work holidays or overtime, to work seven (7) day schedule.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
One year experience in a long term care environment preferred. Experience or interest in working with older adults required. Good nursing assessment skills. Maturity, friendliness and enjoyment in working with people. Basic knowledge of computer software and programs required, minimum working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Skype.
