Amanda Madson has served as an administrative assistant at Longhouse-Northshire since 2015. She recognizes how making even a small impact in someone’s life can be a rewarding experience, and encourages others to find a career in long-term care.
How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I remember visiting my great great grandmother in a long-term care facility when I was young, and I started working at Longhouse-Northshire in 2015.
What do you like most about working in long-term care?
I enjoy the people here and getting to know the residents and their families.
What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
I never imagined I would ever work in long-term care, but it can be rewarding to make even the smallest difference in someone’s life. Even if you aren’t a CNA or nurse, there can be a place for you!
What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?
To be compassionate and kind. You never know what someone else might be struggling with.
When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy spending time with family or just being at home and playing video games.
What is your favorite quote and why?
“To thine own self be true.” It has stuck with me since high school.
