Anna Trudell has held several roles at Family Care Solutions in Davenport and currently serves as the director of clinical services. She finds it rewarding to work with patients one-on-one for an extended period, and she enjoys placing staff with patients and seeing friendships grow.
How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I started at Family Care Solutions as a PRN nurse wanting something more than my full-time job had to offer. After working several months as a PRN, I interviewed for a case manager position and accepted the position when offered. I worked for just shy of a year as a case manager and then accepted the position as the director of clinical services.
What do you like most about working in long-term care?
I enjoy the connections I make with patients and families, and I feel an obligation and duty to the patients and families we serve to ensure the care they receive meets or exceeds expectations. I enjoy selecting staff I feel will be a good fit with a patient and then seeing the connection made between our staff and the patients and families.
What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
It is an incredibly rewarding field to be in, and in most other settings, you are not afforded the opportunity to care for an individual over an extended period on a one-to-one basis.
What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?
I’ve learned to avoid knee jerk reactions! Most situations require at least a little time to think it through, so allow that time to gain confidence and reassurance that your reaction and response is the most appropriate.
When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy hiking, running, exercising, just being outdoors and cooking!
What is your favorite quote and why?
“Years of love have been forgot, in the hatred of a minute” – Edgar Allan Poe. This quote makes you gain perspective on what can transpire in moments of being irrational and the consequences of hate.
