Member Spotlight: Ashley Stichter of Family Care Solutions

April 1, 2021

Ashley Stichter has worked at Family Care Solutions (FCS) in Davenport since 2015. As the HR director, Ashley enjoys witnessing the progress and improvements that their clients and patients achieve while receiving care from FCS.

How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I started as a direct support professional at Family Care Solutions in 2015. I fell in love with the client/patient population and the purpose behind the services FCS provides. A few months later, I was promoted to administrative assistant in the FCS office while continuing to provide services in the field regularly.

What do you like most about working in long-term care?
My favorite part about working in this field is seeing and hearing the progress and improvements our patients and clients make. My heart was so full when I witnessed a client achieve her goals, which was a direct result from other FCS staff members and I working on this particular goal with her. I also love assisting our caregivers and seeing them successfully care for clients and patients!

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
I encourage others to consider a career in long-term care by expressing my love for this field of work. It truly takes a special person to succeed in this field, and I have been honored to meet so many caring and compassionate individuals who work in long-term care.

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?
As I have had the opportunity to meet and work with many individuals – both patients/clients and caregivers – it has opened my eyes to the many different backgrounds individuals and families come from. This has helped me outside of work by allowing myself to have a better understanding of different backgrounds or situations when connecting with new people.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, going to concerts and other fun events and attending church activities.

What is your favorite quote and why?
“The expert in everything was once a beginner.” This quote speaks to me because it reminds me that we are all capable of reaching any of our desired goals. We have to take the initiative to start and that will lead to the path of expertise.
