Member Spotlight: Audrey Schott of Prairie View Campus

November 25, 2019

Audrey started at Prairie View in 1982 as a CNA and switched to the housekeeping department 10 years ago. She enjoys caring for the residents and bringing smiles to their faces. After many years at Prairie View, Audrey is retiring this month. Congratulations and thank you for providing years of care!

How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I needed a second income and Prairie View was right in town and the CNA course was being offered in Primghar.

What do you like most about working in long-term care?
I want the residents to be cared for with compassion. I try to make their last days enjoyable and put a smile on their face.

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
It’s a fulfilling job working with the residents. Prairie View allowed me to work part-time as a CNA and switch to housekeeping 10 years ago.

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?
Working at Prairie View helped to prepare me to care for my aging parents.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
Shopping, being with my family, walking and just staying home.

What is your favorite quote and why?
“It is what it is!”
