Member Spotlight: Beverly Wren of Murphy Place Assisted Living

January 15, 2020

When it comes to long-term care, Beverly Wren is well-rounded, having worked in home health, nursing facilities and assisted living communities. As a cook and personal care companion at Murphy Place Assisted Living in Corydon, Beverly finds joy in caring for others.

How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I started working in nursing homes at the age of 16 as an aide. I’ve worked in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and in-home health ever since.

What do you like most about working in long-term care?
My favorite part of working in long-term care is the people I take care of. I enjoy being able to help them and make their days better.

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
Working in long-term care enables you to take care of people the way you would want your family taken care of. You can make their final years better.

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?
Not all elderly are like they seem, just like with all people. You must take the time to get to know someone.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
Spending time with my family and helping them.

What is your favorite quote and why?
Treat and take care of people the way you would want to be treated. One day you may need help. I’m getting older and don’t want mistreated.
