Calista Haasl, a certified nursing assistant (CNA) at Solon Retirement Village, is in her fourth year of college and chose to work in long-term care to gain patient contact experience before applying to physician assistant (PA) schools. She finds caring for others humbling and gratifying.
How did you become interested in the long-term care profession?
I’m working toward applying to physician assistant (PA) schools and wanted patient contact experience before.
What do you like most about working in long-term care?
I enjoy the relationships I have with my residents.
What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
It is so gratifying and humbling to care for those who are at their most vulnerable.
What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help outside of work?
I have learned patience!
When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy reading, running, biking, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
What is your favorite quote and why?
“You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think.” It’s a great reminder!
