By working at a home care agency, Cam Brown has gained experience in interacting with a wide variety of people with their own individual needs. As the general manager of Family Care Solutions, Cam enjoys the opportunity to make a difference in lives every day and has gained a perspective that is useful in all areas of his life.
How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
The founders of Family Care Solutions had an open position and I was looking for a new opportunity, so I jumped at the chance.
What do you like most about working in long-term care?
I enjoy being able to make a difference in peoples’ lives on a daily basis.
What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
There’s little else that can be as fulfilling as a career in long-term care.
What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?
In home care, you deal with a wide swath of the population, and invariably have to be able to adjust to how you approach situations. That kind of flexibility and perspective can be helpful in all aspects of one’s life.
When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy reading, playing with my dogs and coaching young athletes.
What is your favorite quote and why?
“Before the steam drill shall beat me down, I’ll die with my hammer in my hand” – John Henry
The quote means to never quit, never doubt yourself and don’t ever look back or second guess yourself.
