July 22, 2019

Chastity Smith began her long-term care profession in home care and now serves as a certified medical assistant (CMA) at Homestead of Osceola.

How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I started in home care and applied at the assisted living facility, and I have been here ever since.

What do you like most about working in long-term care?
I enjoy visiting with the tenants.

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
A career in long-term care is challenging – physically and emotionally. But a person’s ability to work in this profession definitely says something good about them. At the end of the day, it’s rewarding.

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?
Don’t bring your job home with you.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
Spending time with my family, friends, shopping and traveling.

What is your favorite quote and why?
“Tomorrow is another day.” It’s always good to be alive to see tomorrow and hopefully it’s better.
