An ad in the local paper turned into an almost 40-year career for Cindy Strunk. As a CNA at Crestview Specialty Care in West Branch, she enjoys seeing others benefiting from the kind and compassionate care the facility provides.
How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I saw an ad in the local paper and thought it sounded like something I would enjoy. I have always liked helping people.
What do you like most about working in long-term care?
I really enjoy seeing people benefit from the kind and compassionate care we provide. It is great to engage with the residents and share stories.
What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
Long-term care is a profession where you can grow as a caregiver and as a person. I have been a CNA for almost 40 years, and it has never been boring!
What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?
I have learned so much from all the residents – history, tolerance, compassion and appreciation.
When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy shopping, spending time with family and friends, listening to live music and cuddling with my two feline friends.
What is your favorite quote and why?
People won’t remember what you said or what you did, but they will remember how you made them feel.
