Member Spotlight: Drew Anderson of The Views Senior Living of Cedar Rapids

Drew Anderson has blended his culinary skills and passion for helping others into a career as the food service supervisor at The Views Senior Living of Cedar Rapids – MeadowView Memory Care.

How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I began my career in long-term care 13 years ago as a dietary aide due to knowing the chef who worked here at the time. I became the food service supervisor soon after I began.

What do you like most about working in long-term care?
I have the privilege of providing our residents with top-notch food, service and friendship. My dietary staff comes to work every day passionate about being able to provide our residents with the kind and compassionate care they deserve.

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
When you’re in this environment, you can hone in on your skills and have the satisfaction of helping others in need.

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?
Over the years I have learned patience and empathy.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
I like to go fishing in my free time.
