Felicia Meeves took her passion of caring for others and turned it into a career. As a CNA at Manilla Manor in Manilla, Iowa, she takes the time to understand residents and serves as both a caretaker and a friend.

How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I have always enjoyed taking care of people.

What do you like most about working in long-term care?
The best part of my job is putting smiles on people’s faces and knowing that at the end of my shift, I was a friend and a caretaker to someone who needs extra help.

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
If you have patience and love helping others, this is the job for you.

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also helps you outside of work?
Everyone is different and likes to do things differently. If you listen and watch body language, you can help others by being on the same level as them and understanding them.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
Crocheting, reading, cleaning, shopping, getting new tattoos, being with my family, going on nature walks and stargazing.

What is your favorite quote and why?
– Live and let live.
– Everyone beats to their own drum. If it makes them happy and isn’t hurting someone else, let them be themselves.
– Be comfortable in your own skin.
– You be you and I will be me.
