As a certified nursing assistant (CNA) at Palo Alto County Health System, Mathia Nieves enjoys caring for the residents and making them smile.

How did you become interested in the long-term care profession?
I went to school when my son was one year old to become a CNA!

What do you like most about working in long-term care?
My favorite part about working in long-term care is caring for the residents and putting a smile on their faces!

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
The place is fun to work at and you have fun with the residents!

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help outside of work?
I have learned how a CNA works and how to be happy here!

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy being with family, my kids and taking vacations!

What is your favorite quote and why?
“Dream as if you will live forever and live as if you will die today!”
