Member Spotlight: Meagan Moffatt of Akron Care Center

July 24, 2020

As a registered nurse and infection control coordinator at Akron Care Center, Meagan Moffatt enjoys having the opportunity to personally impact the lives of residents and says that the residents have made a difference in her life as well.

How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I began my career in long-term care while in high school as a CNA. I was hoping to become a nurse and thought it would be a good place to start. I am now a registered nurse, still working in long-term care and loving it!

What do you like most about working in long-term care?
What I like most is spending time and talking with the residents! I love hearing their life stories and learning from their wisdom!

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
I would encourage others to consider a long-term care career because it is so rewarding. There is nothing better than feeling like your work makes a difference in someone else’s life! Along with that, the people you care for will also make a difference in your life in many different ways!

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also helps you outside of work?
One lesson I have learned that stands out to me and that I like to share with others is that you should make the most out of life. Don’t worry about or hold onto little things that will not matter in the long run. Cherish the time you have with your loved ones and make the most of it!

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy spending time with family, fishing, reading, playing sudoku, playing cards, camping, and I have recently started getting into gardening.

What is your favorite quote and why?
I do not necessarily have a favorite quote but one that sticks out to me that I have recently found is, “The extra mile is never crowded.”
