Melissa Wiederin began her career in health care as a CNA at age 15, and has been a charge nurse at Adel Acres for three years. She has a passion for the elderly population and has worked in a variety of settings, including nursing homes and hospitals, as well as mental health and correctional facilities.
“Her expertise in nursing and mental health management has been instrumental in helping residents and staff navigate uncertain waters during the pandemic over the last few weeks,” said Adel Acres Marketing and Admissions Director Tom Harmsen. “Her ability to calm, redirect and build trust with residents is inspiring. I can’t think of a better time to recognize her and provide a strong example to other nursing professionals in these precarious times.”
Melissa has taught several courses over a span of five years at Job Corps in Denison, Iowa. She has completed two bachelor’s degrees, three minors, and is pursuing licensure as a mental health practitioner.
“Melissa has an innate ability to make every person she encounters feel special. Even with our business changing daily, she always stops and has genuine conversations with residents offering comfort, reassurance, or just expressing how much she cares,” said an Adel Acres team member. “She is a team player and leader. A highlight of many people’s day, including staff, is when she starts her shift. She is a model nurse and person, and we are lucky to have her.”
