A career in long-term care runs in Melissa Wiley’s family, as she learned about the profession through her mother who worked in long-term care all her life before retiring. As a CNA at Palo Alto Resident Care (PARC) Hall, Melissa finds her role rewarding as she helps those in need.
How did you get started in the long-term care profession?

What do you like most about working in long-term care?
I enjoy caring for the residents and hearing all the stories about the history of their life.
What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
This career is rewarding, as you get to care for those in need.
What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?
I’ve learned to take one day at a time and that everything changes.
When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy crafting and gardening.
What is your favorite quote and why?
“Life’s a dance you learn as you go, sometimes you lead and sometimes you follow.” I believe this is good to remember in our changing world.
