Member Spotlight: Michelle Madden of Family Care Solutions

May 21, 2020

Michelle Madden became a home health aide at Family Care Solutions because she was looking for a position she could hold simultaneously while attending college. Her favorite part of her job is getting to see her patients daily and building relationships with them.

How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I was looking for a career that I could do simultaneously while I was in college and would help me get my foot in the door for my future career someday. I wanted to take care of others.

What do you like most about working in long-term care?
What I like most about working in long-term care is that I am able to build a strong and steady relationship with my patients. I love being able to see them on a day-to-day basis.

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
A career in long-term care is truly one of the most rewarding jobs. If you are looking into going into any sort of health care field, this is a great place to start. The patients really appreciate all of the care they receive, and they are some of the nicest people I have ever met.

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also helps you outside of work?
I’ve learned to never take anything for granted, because there are day-to-day tasks that we do without even thinking twice about, but there are people out there that wish they could do something by themselves, or dream of the day they can be independent.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy taking my dogs for a walk and going to the dog park. I love doing things outside and being in the sun.

What is your favorite quote and why?
My favorite quote is, “The only way out is through.” I do not exactly know who came up with that quote, but I like it because it is completely true. No matter how bad or hard something in your life is, the only way to get out of it is to get through it.
