Member Spotlight: Renee Tegeler of Sunny View Care Center

October 20, 2021

Nursing runs in the family of Charlotte (Renee) Tegeler, and she has cared for others as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) for 46 years. As a CNA at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, Renee takes pride in going the extra mile to make residents smile and earn their trust.

How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
My mom and aunt worked in nursing, so I was around older people growing up. This is all that I knew – to help others. I’ve been a CNA since 1975.

What do you like most about working in long-term care?
I love going the extra mile to make someone’s day and seeing that person smile, meeting their needs and earning their trust. I guess you could say I’m a people person.

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
If you like taking care of people, we are all working together as a team to make a difference for residents, showing love and concern on behalf of the residents.

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?
Take pride in what you do, no matter what it is, and accept new challenges.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
I love to crochet, and family means the world to me.

What is your favorite quote and why?
Treat others as you would like to be treated.
