Member Spotlight: Rocio Cervantes of Manilla Manor

July 1, 2019

Rocio Cervantes, currently a CNA at Manilla Manor in Manilla, Iowa, began as a housekeeper at a nursing facility and recognized the need for additional help. So, she went and got her CNA license so she could serve as another set of hands.

How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I was a housekeeper at a nursing home. I saw how busy it got and wanted to help the residents. As a result, I decided to get my CNA license.

What do you like most about working in long-term care?
My favorite part is hearing stories of old times from the residents. How times have changed!

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
Think of your elderly family. Would you like to help them when you can? Start by helping others and learning first-hand.

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also helps you outside of work?
How to deal with all kinds of elderly patients.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
Puzzles and reading.

What is your favorite quote and why?
“Treat others how you want to be treated!” I want to be treated with respect and kindness when it is my time to be in a care facility.
