Due to 30 years of working in long-term care, Roslyn Hutchinson understands the challenges seniors face when transitioning to a senior living community. By working in the housekeeping department at The Views Senior Living of Cedar Rapids, Roslyn is able to care for and build relationships with residents.
How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I have been working with seniors for about 30 years. I enjoy what I do, and I am a people person.
What do you like most about working in long-term care?
I love the residents. They always greet you with a smile.
What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
You have to be open-minded and listen to the residents. Give the residents uplifting words because it’s a big change for them to live in a senior living community.
What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?
Never let anything bother you or get to you. Always think positive.
When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
I love watching scary movies, reading books, cooking and being with my family.
What is your favorite quote and why?
“A warm smile is the universal language of kindness.”-William Arthur Ward
