How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I had never worked in long-term care until I was finishing my degree. My degree is in health care administration, and during my internship is when I really fell in love with the profession.

What do you like most about working in long-term care?
I enjoy the connections I make on a daily basis with my residents and staff. I love seeing the small moments happen and the impact they make in someone’s life.

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
It is a challenging but EXTREMELY rewarding field. The love and relationships you get to develop with residents and families is beyond words. How amazing is it that you can go to work and create family bonds with your clients? There is no greater feeling than knowing you’ve made someone feel safe and loved today.

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?
There are many lessons I have learned, but the biggest one is that this world is so much bigger than just you. We need to remember that everyone is facing some kind of battle and our compassion needs to come first.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy spending time with my husband and three kids, hiking, weightlifting and cooking.

What is your favorite quote and why?
“We have to be the best we can, this is our sacred human responsibility.” – Albert Einstein
