As the administrator of Prairie View Campus in Sanborn, Wendy Nelson’s favorite part of her job is having the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life. She also serves on the IHCA Board of Directors, as well as the Public Relations and Convention and Education Committees. Thank you for all you do, Wendy!
How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I gave the long-term care profession a chance when I couldn’t find a human resources job in rural northwest Iowa.
What do you like most about working in long-term care?
Making a difference in someone’s life.
What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
If your purpose in life is to make a mark and you want to be filled with a purpose – then a career in long-term care is for you.
What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?
Things are not always black and white. There is a lot of gray in the world.
When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy golfing, going to Cubs and Hawkeye games and attending concerts.
What is your favorite quote and why?
“Whatever you are, be a good one.” – Abe Lincoln
I like this quote because it’s motivational with a bit of sass, and can be applicable to many people.
