If your retirement facility requires payment of an entrance fee prior to move-in, please note that you may be required to register annually with the Iowa Insurance Division. This applies to continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs).
The deadline to register or renew is March 1. IHCA encourages providers to complete the process early to avoid last-minute issues with logins, filing uploads or payment processing.
Who must register?
Any retirement facility that charges an entrance fee before a resident moves in must register each year with the Iowa Insurance Division.

- Providing a disclosure statement to prospective residents
- Using a contract that includes all required disclosure items
Initial registration (new filers)
To register for the first time, email the Retirement Facilities Filing Form to service.companiesiid.iowa.gov.
You will receive an email response containing a PIN letter and instructions to complete the registration process.
Renewal registration (returning filers)
To renew your registration:
- Complete the Retirement Facilities Filing Form
- Follow the Registration Filing Instructions
Important fee note (SBS additional charges)
In addition to the $100 state filing fee, State Based Systems (SBS) will assess:
- A $10 attachment fee for using the online filing system
- Credit card payments: additional 3.5% service fee (applied to the total amount submitted)
- Electronic check payments: $2.00 flat service fee
