This week’s Spotlight is a special edition, as we highlight a “new” IHCA staff member. IHCA is excited to have Darla MacConnell on the team as the office and project manager. Darla returned to the team in 2018 and was previously employed at the association from 2000 – 2004. Her wide range of knowledge in countless areas, along with her cheerful and helpful attitude makes her a great asset at IHCA. Thank you for all you do, Darla!
How did you get started at IHCA?
After being self-employed for 12 years then attempting to be a stay-at-home mom for a short while, I wondered what I was going to do once my kids pretty much became self-reliant. I didn’t need to wonder long, as an opportunity came up to work at IHCA again (I originally worked at IHCA from 2000-2004) – so here I am.
What do you like most about working in long-term care?
It’s team-oriented, I have caring co-workers and there’s always something exciting happening…never a dull moment.
When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy hosting and catering tea parties, doing arts and crafts and spending time with my family.
What is your favorite quote and why?

Service is a great way to spread joy to others. Witnessing the excitement and joy of those you serve is very rewarding which also brings happiness that can carry you through life’s challenges.
