About
OUR MISSION:
Empowering members. Improving lives.
OUR CORE VALUES:
Integrity. Solutions. People.
We represent nearly 8 out of 10 long-term care providers statewide,
bringing a unified, credible voice to the issues that impact care delivery every day.

Across nonprofit and for-profit organizations alike, Iowa’s long-term care community turns to IHCA for advocacy, education and operational support.
NATIONAL REPRESENTATION:
IHCA connects members to national resources through the
American Health Care Association, National Center for Assisted Living and National Alliance for Care at Home.

ADVOCACY
We work to advance funding, policy and regulatory decisions that support care delivery and long-term sustainability.

EDUCATION
From large conferences to on-demand learning and certification programs, we deliver training that strengthens the workforce, supports compliance and improves quality.

OPERATIONAL SUPPORT
IHCA provides access to experts and hands-on solutions that address regulatory, reimbursement and clinical challenges while reducing workload and risk.

INDUSTRY LEADERSHIP
We lead conversations at the statehouse, with regulators and at the national level — ensuring providers are represented where decisions are made.
Nothing about long-term care is easy right now.
Providers are operating in a challenging environment with persistent workforce shortages, increasing regulatory pressure and complex reimbursement systems.
That’s why having the right partner matters.
IHCA exists to protect providers’ ability to deliver care. We advocate for practical policy, deliver education that saves time and money and step in with real regulatory and reimbursement support when issues arise.
IHCA works to ensure long-term care providers are informed, supported and represented in discussions that impact care across Iowa.
Key results include:
- Funding solutions that support access to quality care
- Ongoing advocacy that protects access to care and financial stability
- Hundreds of connections between members and policymakers each year
- Real-time guidance and support when regulatory or operational challenges arise

IHCA helps ensure the perspectives of long-term care providers are part of the broader conversation around care, policy and the future of Iowa’s aging population.

IHCA began in 1950 with a small group of leaders committed to improving nursing home care in Iowa. What started as a single meeting has grown into a statewide association representing more than 800 providers across the full continuum of care.

Through decades of change — from evolving regulations to major shifts in health care delivery — IHCA has remained focused on one thing: supporting providers and strengthening care across Iowa.

PROTECTING OPERATIONS
We advocate for funding and policy that keep providers stable and positioned to grow — even as regulations and expectations shift.

STRENGTHENING THE WORKFORCE
Education, certification programs and workforce initiatives help providers train staff, maintain compliance and improve retention and quality.

OFFERING REAL EXPERTISE
From regulatory guidance to reimbursement support, IHCA connects its members to experts who help solve problems quickly — without guesswork.
