Committees, Councils and Work Groups

Committees
Public Policy Committee- Purpose: Provide insight and advice on the association’s legislative agenda priorities for recommendation to the IHCA Board.
- Membership: Membership is subject to approval of the IHCA Executive Committee Chair. Special consideration for committee membership shall be given to graduates of the IHCA Leadership Academy. Committee membership will be limited to 20 members per year. Includes one chair.
- Meeting Frequency: Once a year (in July to set legislative agenda), or as needed at the request of the committee chair. The committee chair also has the ability to form task force groups to meet on special initiatives as needed.
- IHCA Staff Liaisons: Merea Bentrott and Brandon Hagen
- The application period to join this committee in 2023 has closed. Applications for 2024 committees will open in the summer of 2023.
- Purpose: Oversee and develop organizational strategic plan recommendation for consideration by the IHCA Executive Committee and IHCA, ICAL and ICHC boards.
- Membership: Members would be comprised of the IHCA Board Chair, ICAL Board Chair, ICHC Board Chair, Single Facility Conference Chair, Multi-Facility Conference Chair, Assisted Living Conference Chair, Residential Care Conference Chair, Public Policy Committee Chair, Quality Improvement Advisory Council Chair, Workforce Committee Chair and the Strategic Planning Committee Chair. The Strategic Planning Committee Chair would be appointed by the Executive Committee Chair and must be a member in good standing to be appointed.
- Meeting Frequency: Three times per year: spring, summer and fall.
- IHCA Staff Liaisons: Merea Bentrott
- Purpose: Provide insight and advice on the association’s workforce strategy for recommendation to the IHCA Board.
- Membership: Membership is subject to approval of the IHCA Executive Committee chair. Special consideration for committee membership shall be given to graduates of the IHCA Leadership Academy. Committee membership is limited to 20 members per year, including one chair.
- Meeting Frequency: Meeting frequency of once a year to prepare workforce-related recommendation for board consideration in strategic planning process. Additional meetings may be requested at the discretion of the committee chair.
- IHCA Staff Liaison: Lori Ristau
- The application period to join this committee in 2023 has closed. Applications for 2024 committees will open in the summer of 2023.
This group may also investigate the establishment of an HR Peer Group to meet member networking needs on HR topics.
Councils
Education & Competency Advisory Council- Purpose: Provide insight and advice on education offered by the association.
- Membership: Membership is subject to approval of the IHCA Executive Committee Chair. Council membership will be limited to 20 members per year. Includes three chairs, one from each board (IHCA, ICAL and ICHC).
- Meeting Frequency: Three times per year, or as needed at the request of the council chair.
- IHCA Staff Liaison: Dave Tomlin
- The application period to join this council in 2023 has closed. Applications for 2024 councils will open in the summer of 2023.
- Responsibilities:
- ICAP offers activity services staff education and professional growth opportunities, promotes understanding of the activity professional role, encourages teamwork with other disciplines and promotes effective resident activities and family/community involvement programs.
- Its steering committee meets quarterly to discuss survey trends and education priorities.
- ICAP holds quarterly networking calls, a June conference and educational tracks at events throughout the year, including convention, for all activity professionals.
- IHCA Staff Liaison: Julie Adair
- Meeting Frequency: Quarterly

- Responsibilities:
- ICNL represents licensed nurses employed by IHCA member organizations including directors of nursing, charge nursers and private-duty nurses.
- ICNL serves as a resource on long-term health care issues, encourages quality improvement and supports the activities of IHCA.
- Its steering committee meets quarterly to determine topics for nursing education opportunities.
- IHCA staff liaison: Julie Adair
- Meeting Frequency: Quarterly
- How to Join: Complete this interest form.
- Purpose: Serve as local media spokespeople on long-term care issues at the request of IHCA as needed.
- Membership: Members are appointed by the IHCA SVP of Strategic Communications. Council membership is limited to 18 members per year (one per each major media outlet in the state).
- Meeting Frequency: No regularly scheduled meetings. Meetings held as needed at the discretion of the SVP of Communications.
- IHCA Staff Liaison: Lori Ristau
- The application period to join this council in 2023 has closed. Applications for 2024 councils will open in the summer of 2023.
- Purpose: Provide insight and advice on the association’s quality programming.
- Membership: Membership is subject to approval of the IHCA Executive Committee Chair. Special consideration for council membership shall be given to graduates of the IHCA Leadership Academy. Council membership is limited to 15 members per year. Includes one chair.
- Meeting Frequency: Three times per year, or as needed at the request of the council chair.
- IHCA Staff Liaison: Brenda Irlbeck
- The application period to join this council in 2023 has closed. Applications for 2024 councils will open in the summer of 2023.
Work Groups
Survey Review Work Group- Purpose: Review and discuss survey trends and issues.
- Membership: No restrictions.
- Record-keeping: Development of survey reports.
- Meeting Frequency: IHCA survey group meets monthly; ICAL, ICHC and life safety survey groups meeting quarterly.

- The application period to join this work group in 2023 has closed. Applications for 2024 work groups will open in the summer of 2023.
