Committees
Convention and Education Committee- Responsibilities:
- Identify, evaluate and promote education programming and products that enhance quality and cost-effectiveness for IHCA members.
- Help plan and promote all major annual education events, including the IHCA Convention & Trade Show and Quarterly Education Conferences.
- Advise on theme development, programming structure, keynote speakers, special events and activities.
- Help recruit exhibitors, sponsors, attendees, and volunteers.

- Responsibilities:
- Develop association public policy positions.
- Respond to state and federal agencies’ and other stakeholders’ public policy proposals
- Make recommendations on DHS budget payment issues to state agencies and legislators.
- Provide analysis and commentary on current and proposed payment issues for Medicare and Medicaid, and recommend legislative strategies to meet IHCA, AHCA and NAHC goals.
- Identify and recommend new policy- and payment-related member education needs.
- Review and respond to legislative and/or regulatory proposals as they arise.

- Responsibilities:
- Provide input and consult on public relations and member communication programs provided by the association to promote a positive public image of the industry and to provide communications resources for members.
- Identify and share positive success stories to share through IHCA public relations efforts.
- Help identify ways to develop and deliver IHCA communications resources within member facilities.
- IHCA staff liaison: Lori Ristau
- Meeting Frequency: 3 to 4 times a year.

- Responsibilities:
- Review and discuss quality and clinical issues, including, but not limited to: quality improvement trends, quality excellence campaigns, measurement tools and data use, quality dashboards, development of quality resources/education, integration of the national association’s quality agendas, best practices in quality, state-initiated outcomes-based measurements and survey and certification results.
- Discuss federal and state agency regulatory issues, including survey and certification issues and new developments, state and federal regulatory reform and work through the legislative team to address regulatory reform.
- Advise the Convention and Education Committee on necessary education programs.

- Meeting Frequency: 4 to 6 times a year. IHCA survey results subcommittee meets monthly. ICAL survey results and IHCA & ICAL life safety subcommittees meet quarterly.

- Responsibilities:
- Address issues related to workforce recruitment and retention.
- Identify education and resources to improve recruitment and retention
- Collaborate with external organizations on workforce and human resources initiatives
- Educate legislators and state/federal agencies regarding workforce needs
- Address the licensing boards with professional licensing concerns
- Identify direct care, social services, dietary, environmental and nursing webinar and in-person education needs.
- Work with IHCA’s affiliated councils, including nurses and dietary, social service, and activity professionals.

Councils
Iowa Council of Activities Professionals (ICAP)- Responsibilities:
- ICAP offers activity services staff education and professional growth opportunities, promotes understanding of the activity professional role, encourages teamwork with other disciplines and promotes effective resident activities and family/community involvement programs.
- Its steering committee meets quarterly to discuss survey trends and education priorities.
- ICAP holds quarterly networking calls, a June conference and educational tracks at events throughout the year, including convention, for all activity professionals.

- Responsibilities:
- ICNL represents licensed nurses employed by IHCA member organizations including directors of nursing, charge nursers and private-duty nurses.
- ICNL serves as a resource on long-term health care issues, encourages quality improvement and supports the activities of IHCA.
- Its steering committee meets quarterly to determine topics for nursing education opportunities.
