Home Care Accreditation Program
The Iowa Health Care Association (IHCA) has created an accreditation program for all IHCA home care members who offer supportive care services. This accreditation program establishes operational and quality standards that set accredited agencies apart from others in the industry.
The program is made up of 12 standards that include privacy policies, service agreements, service plans, complaint/grievance policies and procedures, abuse reporting, employment/payroll processes/workers compensation coverage, training requirements and competency checklists, current licensure with required professional or state licensing boards, emergency/after-hours availability and policies, quality assurance/supervision policies, liability insurance and compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws.
To become accredited, agencies must submit the required documents for each standard, which will be reviewed by the Iowa Health Care Association. Accreditation will be awarded to agencies that meet or exceed all 12 standards. Once agencies achieve accreditation, they will distinguish themselves from peers in meeting the highest standards in operation and quality.

How Does an Agency Become Accredited?
The process:
Agencies can become accredited by submitting an Accreditation Application with all of the supporting documentation to [email protected]. All applications will be reviewed by the Iowa Health Care Association, which will ensure all 12 standards are met. The initial accreditation is good for one year and then can be renewed annually thereafter.

Home Instead Senior Care – Polk County became Iowa's first IHCA Accredited Home Care Agency in 2023, establishing the benchmark for excellence recognized by the accreditation program today.

Bethany at Home
A division of Bethany Life, Bethany at Home has provided trusted in-home services to Central Iowans for more than a decade. Based in Story City, the agency offers a comprehensive range of health and support services, home maintenance, wellness programs, technology assistance and care coordination to help individuals of all ages live safely and independently at home. Bethany at Home became Iowa's second IHCA Accredited Home Care Agency in 2026.
