How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I chose long-term care because I value building lasting relationships with residents. I enjoy the opportunity to truly know my residents, advocate for them and be a source of comfort and care in their daily lives.
What do you like most about working in long-term care?
Relationships. I truly enjoy getting to know each resident personally—hearing their stories, learning about their lives, getting all the advice on life and seeing all their personalities.
What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
I would tell others that long-term care can be challenging, but it’s deeply fulfilling. You develop those lasting relationships and close bonds with those who need the consistent, compassionate care.
What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?
Caring for older adults has given me a deeper appreciation for time, family and health. It reminded me not to take small moments for granted. It has also taught me resilience and emotional strength.
When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
Outside of work, I value spending quality time with friends and family and diving into a good book.
What is your favorite quote and why?
“They may forget your name, but they’ll never forget how you made them feel.” – Maya Angelou. It reminds us that our character and the way we treat people leaves a lasting impression.
