Session Descriptions
Innovation in Action: Technology and Strategies Transforming Senior Care – Speaker: Joel Prevost
Today’s senior population is the most technologically savvy in history. The post-acute and senior care industry has adopted innovative practices in response to the pandemic, staffing crisis and the ongoing need for efficient and sustainable practices. Innovation is necessary to both survive and thrive in senior care. Learn about solutions and trends that are having a great impact on staff retention, quality care and operational efficiencies. This session will cover topics like AI, workplace violence prevention, systems automation and much more. You will hear best practices, case study examples and decades of wisdom about adopting technology and implementing innovative changes to accomplish better care, remove burden from employees and improve operations.
The Robot Made Me Do It: Risks, Benefits, and Liability Issues in the Developing Use of AI – Speakers: Jo Ellen Whitney and Scott Murphy
As artificial intelligence becomes more integrated into long-term care operations, questions about data protection, liability, and ethics are becoming increasingly critical. This session explores the evolving legal landscape surrounding AI use in care settings—covering how to safeguard resident data under HIPAA, key considerations when contracting with tech vendors, and who’s accountable when algorithms influence care decisions. Attendees will gain practical strategies for protecting privacy, ensuring compliance, and maintaining human oversight while embracing innovation.
The Road Ahead: Lessons from Stonehill’s Technology Roadmap – Speakers: Peg Stockel and Liz Kunde
Technology can be overwhelming without a clear plan for how each system connects and supports your organization’s goals. In this session, Peg Stockel, President and CEO of Stonehill Communities, and Liz Kunde, Executive Director for Strategy and Compliance, will share the development of their comprehensive technology roadmap—a strategic tool designed to guide implementation, align teams, and maximize value from digital investments. Attendees will learn how Stonehill identified priorities, engaged staff, and used the roadmap to drive efficiency, data visibility, and better care outcomes.
Remote Patient Monitoring: Transforming Care Across the Senior Housing Continuum – Speaker: Tasha Janssen
As operators face increasing resident acuity and staffing challenges, remote patient monitoring (RPM) technologies have emerged as a leading solution. During this session, Curana Health’s Vice President of Operations Tasha Janssen, MSN, FNP-C, MBA, will discuss two types of RPM devices: contactless technologies that track key clinical indicators (like heart rate and respiratory changes) for skilled nursing and memory care residents and connected devices (blood sugar monitors, blood pressure monitors, pulse oximeters, and digital scales) that assisted and independent living residents use to collect vitals for review by remote care teams. Attendees will discover how these technologies help reduce health complications, prevent unnecessary emergency room visits, reduce staff burden, and improve resident/patient (and family) satisfaction.
Real-World Innovation: How Iowa Providers are Using Technology to Improve Care
Hear directly from your peers as IHCA member providers share how they’re leveraging technology and AI in their communities to solve challenges, streamline operations, and enhance quality care. This moderated panel will explore the real-world impact of tech adoption — from identifying needs and selecting solutions to implementation lessons and measurable outcomes. Walk away with practical insights and inspiration to bring innovation to your own organization.
