Program Description
This program is a two-part series designed to strengthen wound care across the long-term care continuum—from frontline clinical practice to documentation, compliance and quality outcomes. The program recognizes that strong wound care requires both practical bedside skills and system-level oversight. Part 1 focuses on day-to-day care, prevention and clinical decision-making for staff working directly with residents. Part 2 builds on that foundation with a deeper look at documentation, MDS, survey risk and quality measures for those responsible for oversight, compliance and performance improvement. Each course can be attended on its own, but together they provide a comprehensive approach to improving wound care practices, reducing risk and strengthening outcomes across the facility.
Part 1: Wound Care in LTC – Core Clinical Practices
This course is designed for nurses, CNAs and frontline care staff who play a direct role in preventing, identifying and managing wounds. Participants will review key documentation expectations at a high level before focusing on practical skills for assessment, treatment and prevention in the long-term care environment.
The program emphasizes real-world application—helping staff recognize early signs of skin breakdown, support healing, prevent avoidable wounds and work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary care team. Participants will also explore how resident goals and clinical realities influence care decisions across healable, maintenance and palliative wound pathways.
Part 2: Wound Care in LTC – Documentation, Compliance, and Quality Outcomes
Designed for clinical leaders, wound nurses, MDS staff, QA professionals, administrators and regional leaders, this course expands on the clinical foundation with a systems-level focus. Sessions will explore survey trends, regulatory expectations, documentation and coding risks and leadership responsibilities in overseeing wound care practices.
Participants will examine how documentation and MDS coding influence reimbursement, quality measures and survey outcomes, and how data can be used to identify risk and drive improvement. The course will also connect wound care practices to QAPI initiatives and broader facility performance goals.
