2023 Care Initiatives Director of Nursing (DON) Leadership Scholarship

This scholarship, made possible by Care Initiatives, is for directors of nursing (DONs), assistant directors of nursing (ADONs) or registered nurses (RNs) interested in pursuing an ADON or DON position with an IHCA, ICAL and ICHC member organization. Six scholarships will be offered to provide for up to $1,500 toward tuition or registration fees to attend eligible leadership programs offered by an Iowa community college or eligible education provider.  Applications for this scholarship are now closed.

Scholarship criteria and information
Applicants for this scholarship must meet all the criteria listed below to qualify: 

  • Work as a DON, ADON or RN for an IHCA member nursing facility, assisted living program, residential care facility, home health agency, home care provider or independent senior living community in good standing at the time of application and at the time the scholarships are awarded.
  • Enrolled in an eligible leadership program* during the 2023-2024 academic year.
  • If the applicant is an RN, must be actively pursuing training for future anticipated ADON or DON duties, as approved/confirmed by their manager.
  • Submit a complete application form, including an essay and letter of recommendation, by June 15, 2023.

Scholarship award process 

  • The IHCA Foundation Board of Directors will judge qualified applications.
  • Recipients will be notified of the results by the end of July.
  • Awarded scholarship funds are placed in the care of the recipient’s approved educational institution or organization by the end of August, to be credited to the recipient’s tuition and/or fees in the 2023-2024 academic year. This is a one-year scholarship that covers the cost of the course/program up to $1,500.
