Member Spotlight: Elizabeth Magsino of Spurgeon Manor

October 12, 2023

Elizabeth Magsino, a certified medication aide (CMA) and certified nursing assistant (CNA) at Spurgeon Manor, enjoys her career in long-term care (LTC) and describes how contributing to her resident’s joy and quality care gives her a sense of purpose and happiness. Additionally, Elizabeth is a recent 2023 John W. and Kimberly D. Grubb Registered Nurse (RN) Scholarship recipient.

How did you get started in the long-term care profession?

I became familiar with long-term care (LTC) professions during a season of questioning my personal goals. I started out in hospice and transitioned into LTC.

What do you like most about working in long-term care?

I enjoy the aspect of having constant opportunities to “give.” To give yourself, time, skills, talents, care… etc.

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?

If anyone feels like they are wanting to figure out their “purpose” or calling – working in LTC, even for a season, will help you gain perspective.

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?

Life is too fragile and quick, live and love fearlessly and fully.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?

I love creating, whether it’s art, music, writing or cooking, and then sharing that with the world and those I love.

What is your favorite quote?

“Love is never wasted, for its value does not rest upon reciprocity.” – C.S. Lewis

It’s so important to pour love onto others, even when it’s not easy. It’s the only way we’ll heal.
