NCLEX item development opportunities

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is currently seeking qualified nurses to serve on item review and item writing panels for the National Council of Licensure Examination (NCLEX), specifically for the NCLEX-PN and NCLEX-RN examinations. Interested volunteers can apply here.

The influence of post-acute nursing is essential to the applicability of the NCLEX exam for nurses. The NCLEX is designed to test the knowledge, skills and abilities essential to safe and effective nursing practice at the entry level. The process of developing questions for the NCLEX-PN and NCLEX-RN examinations requires multiple steps and qualified volunteer nurses to write and review items. Panel participants are an integral part of the item development process, especially nurses who are currently supervising newly licensed LPN/VNs.

Benefits of participating on NCSBN item development panels:

  • Contribute to promoting continued excellence in the nursing profession
  • Have opportunities to network on a national and international level
  • Build new skills for professional growth
  • Receive verification of continuing education contact hours

Qualifications for volunteer nurses interested in participating are detailed in the NCLEX item development brochure. All volunteer opportunities are held at the NCSBN office in downtown Chicago. Travel expenses, including airfare, lodging and meals, are covered by NCSBN. Apply here and share this opportunity with fellow qualified nurses in Iowa.
