SING platform update

In November, the Iowa Single Contact License and Background Check system (SING) announced a long-overdue upgrade to their system, which went live on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026. With the release of a new platform, members should be aware that the previous SING platform will sunset on Feb. 28, 2026.

Members should be aware of some important points about both the new and old SING platforms as noted below:

New SING application

  • The new SING application can be found at https://sing.dps.state.ia.us.
  • Current agency admins have been set up by the Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which requires authentication through the OKTA platform. If the organization’s point person has not done so already, this is the first step.
  • After setting up an OKTA account, access to SING is available. If a message is shown that the individual does not have permissions assigned, contact [email protected].
  • If an update to organization contact information is necessary, please complete the Billing Account-SING Contact Info Update and return to the DCI. The DCI must have one individual on file as the primary point of contact for SING who will act as the agency admin. Any individuals within the organization requiring access to SING must be added by the agency admin.
  • If your organization has not received notices or cannot access SING, it is likely that contact information on file for the organization is outdated. Please use the noted form to update as necessary.
  • SING results will be provided in the new SING portal only, including the Form S and criminal history rap sheet. Users will not receive a notification when results have been provided and SOR and CCH results will no longer be faxed or mailed.
  • SING results will be available for viewing for only 30 days past the final result date. Organizations should establish a process to download and save or print the results.
  • A detailed SING Instruction Guide can be found on the SING homepage once logged in.

Old SING application

*No longer functional for use, but available to retrieve submission results.

  • A link to the new SING application is available in the old system.
  • Users will be able to access the search history tool in the “old” SING system until Feb. 28, 2026.
  • Requests completed in the old system will have results posted in the old system.

Members are encouraged to retrieve all necessary SING results from the old platform prior to the Feb. 28 deadline to ensure evidence of background check completion can be provided to regulatory authorities.

In addition, as a reminder, the required record check evaluation process is still required; its process has not changed.

Questions about the new SING platform can be directed to IHCA’s Brenda Irlbeck, VP of Regulatory Affairs, or to DCI at [email protected].
