How did you get started in the long-term care profession?

I began my career in long-term care at the age of 16, shortly after my grandma was diagnosed with dementia and moved into a long-term care facility. I wanted a job that would allow me to be close to her while also making a difference in the lives of others going through similar experiences. October 2025 marked my 20th anniversary with Green Hills.

What do you like most about working in long-term care?

People enjoy working in long-term care for many reasons. For me, one of the biggest reasons why I enjoy working in long-term care is the opportunity to build deep, lasting relationships with residents and their families. Getting to know their life stories, their families and being able to provide support, comfort and dignity—that is what makes the work more personal and rewarding for me.

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?

I would tell others that long-term care is more than just a job—that it is a relationship with purpose-driven work. You have the opportunity to truly make a difference in someone’s life, which is rewarding.

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?

Working in long-term care has taught me patience and perspective. You learn to listen and meet people where they are. When you listen to someone, you are able to place yourself in their situation.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?

When I am not at work, I spend most of my time supporting and cheering on my daughters in both their academic and social activities. I also enjoy fishing, hiking, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

What is your favorite quote and why?

“People don’t care what you know until they know you care.” It is a quote that shapes how I show up for people every single day.
