Member Spotlight: Billie Lovell of Accura Healthcare of Pleasantville

September 7, 2023

Billie Lovell, provisional administrator at Accura Healthcare of Pleasantville, finds her career in long-term care to be rewarding and enjoys seeing the smiles on her residents’ faces. Billie is a recent IHCA Member Employee Scholarship recipient and is looking forward to continuing her education.

How did you get started in the long-term care profession?

I started as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) when I was 17 years old. After high school, I went on to work alongside a long-term care medical director as his medical assistant rounding in nursing homes.

What do you like most about working in long-term care?

Every day is an opportunity to make a positive impact in your residents’ quality of care. One of my favorite parts of my day is getting to work and seeing the smiles on residents’ faces!

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?

It is, without a doubt, one of the most challenging careers, but so rewarding in every way possible!

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?

I have learned compassion. You never know what someone has gone through in their lives. No matter how hard or difficult the cares may be, each and every resident deserves to be loved and cared for.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling.
