August 31, 2023

Chanda Jensen began working in long-term care to follow her passion of helping others. As a universal worker, CNA and medication aide at Boyson Heights Senior Living in Cedar Rapids, she enjoys being able to make a positive difference in residents’ lives. Chanda is a recent recipient of a 2023 IHCA Member Employee Scholarship and is excited to work toward her dream of becoming a nurse.

How did you get started in the long-term care profession?

I began working in LTC because I have a desire to take care of others.

What do you like most about working in long-term care?

The thing I like the most about long-term care is that you have the opportunity to develop lasting relationships with your residents.

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?

Working in LTC allows you to know and form connections, provide deeper resident care, feel a high sense of job satisfaction and have the ability to make a difference.

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?

I have gained knowledge from older generations and perspective on aging.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy watching Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling and football, cheering on the Chicago Cubs, attending concerts and spending time with family.

What is your favorite quote and why?

My favorite quote is, “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream,” by C.S. Lewis. Age should never be a factor.
