Gail has worked at Laurens Care Center for ten years and has over 40 years of experience serving others in long-term care in a variety of ways, including working in the dietary and activities departments, as a CNA and most recently as an administrator. Congratulations to Gail Olson on her upcoming retirement this Friday. Thank you for all that you do, and for the incredible care and support you provide to residents.

How did you get started in the long-term care profession?

I was searching for a job during the farming crisis and applied for one in long-term care.

What do you like most about working in long-term care?

My favorite part is providing a good, solid Iowa home for residents.

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care

Every little bit of good you do for the residents and the home will come back to you. You always feel good about what you do to help others.

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help outside of work?

Always have care for people and the way you look at and treat others matters.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy reading, traveling and gardening.

What is your favorite quote and why?

“I cried because I had no shoes until I met a man that had no feet.”
