How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I started working in long-term care as a CNA about 25 years ago. I left long-term care but stayed in health care for about 20 years. I returned to long-term care about four years ago as a licensed nursing home administrator (LNHA).
What do you like most about working in long-term care?
I enjoy building relationships with residents, families and employees.
What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
This is a very rewarding career path with several different options of paths to take. There is something for everyone.
What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help outside of work?
I have learned patience, kindness, empathy, fairness, teamwork and passion.
When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy reading, traveling, watching movies and spending time with family and friends.
What is your favorite quote and why?
“It’s not what happens to you, it’s how you respond to it.” Your response to the things that happen in life sets the motion for the outcome.
