Jennifer Babinat recently made a career change and joined long-term care, where she has found her home away from home. Jennifer, a life enrichment coach assistant at Holland Farms Senior Living, describes long-term care as a career path that gives back in numerous ways.
How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
I was recently able to make a career change from human resources (HR) to long-term care. It has been a desire of mine for a long time.
What do you like most about working in long-term care?
I enjoy helping others feel valued. I also really enjoy the partnership I have with my co-workers and our leaders.
What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
This is a career path that gives back in so many ways. There are also opportunities to cross-train and grow in your professional development.
What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help outside of work?
I’ve learned to be a better listener and to seek to understand what is important to others. This helps others feel valued and important.
When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
My husband Scott and I enjoy watching sports and going to the movies. We also enjoy spending time with our kids and grandkids.
What is your favorite quote and why?
My favorite high school teacher used to always tell us to “rise above the ordinary.” I love this quote because I try to do a little more to let people know I care.
